Learning Outside of the Classroom
In our residential (MASc-SCMr) pathway, you’ll collaborate with a company or organization on a 10-month capstone project that starts on day one. You’ll take part in an international SCALE Expo and have the opportunity to meet executives at major corporations on a Study Trek to learn first-hand how they manage supply chain challenges. You’ll participate in the Supply Chain Challenge—a three-week, business case competition where you and your team will work together to solve a data-centric supply chain challenge submitted by a partner company.
What is a capstone project?
A highlight of our program, the capstone project connects you with one of our industry partners managing supply chain challenges every day. Our partners work for well-known global companies spanning numerous industries. Collaborating with your company, you’ll devise practical, workable solutions to a real-world business problem. This experience will deepen your understanding of today’s supply chain issues, as you apply your classroom knowledge and skills in real time. It’s an opportunity to make a real impact in the industry!

International SCALE Expo and Journal
MIT’s annual International SCALE Expo offers you a rare opportunity to present your capstone project along with 100+ supply chain innovation projects from graduate students in the MIT Global Supply Chain and Logistics Excellence (SCALE) Network, in partnership with sponsoring companies and SCALE researchers. Your capstone project will also be published in our journal—contributing your insights to move the field forward.
Study Trek
SCM Study Treks take you out of the classroom and into the field, across the United States and abroad. These visits are hosted by our SCM Master’s alumni and executives affiliated with our corporate partners, who are willing to share their insights with you. There’s no better way to understand how supply chains really work than to see them in action firsthand.
